Alabama Butterbean Festival

September 5, 2009

Pinson, Alabama

The theme for this year’s one-day outdoor festival is AN OLD FASHIONED BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR ALABAMA – Celebrating 190 Years of Statehood.  The festival will kick off with a 5K and 1Mile Fun Run at 7am followed by a day of family fun including a children parade featuring kids and their “vehicles”, butterbean & cornbread cooking contests, a car show, and three live entertainment stages.  As in years past, this year’s festival combination of music entertainment, food, craft, informational booths and activities should appeal to people of all backgrounds and ages.

The Alabama Butterbean Festival was born as an effort to unite the senior citizen population of Palmerdale with the present and younger generations throughout the area. It aides as an effort to fund renovations. The theme for the festival came from the original roots of the community, a laid back, friendly butterbean eating neighborhood. Many memories spawn from the thought of eating butterbeans and cornbread while visiting with neighbors on the front porch.
